I live in a broken world. It is that simple truth that leads me to do the work I do. When we take stock of the world that we live in, it is easy to resign ourselves to fatalism. It is easy to say that poverty, conflict, and oppression are unchangeable. To say that disease and hunger are unavoidable. In many moments, I find myself doing the same. However, the important insight of this fatalism is the recognition that we face incredible challenges. We cannot underestimate the challenge of eradicating disease and poverty, of liberating oppressed peoples, or of spreading peace.

Below are some of the Fellows first experiences in Africa. Life is always full of worries. They plague the mind; they sharpen the senses. As I sit here, I am worried about this Fellowship - whether I am succeeding or failing, or whether I can do either of those at the moment. But when we walked together in the tiny village and through Kilombero Secondary School, we saw a different sort of worry. It is a worry that means the difference between having money and not having money. Sometimes it is the worry that means life or death.Malaria is constantly on the minds of people here.

On behalf of the C-1 World Dialogue we deplore the recent terrible events in Gojra Pakistan where at least seven Pakistani Christians were killed and many more wounded in a terrible attack.  We stand with those whose lives and property have been damaged and we grieve with those who mourn. The taking of innocent lives, including those of children is deeply shocking. Murder, arson and theft committed in the Name of God is both a crime and sacrilege.
