Tony Blair Faith Foundation

Each year, publishing our annual report gives us a chance to reflect on just how quickly things change. All of us at the Tony Blair Faith Foundation are pleased at the growth of the Foundation’s projects even since April 2009, which is the period covered by this report ends. The report details an incredibly busy year for the Foundation as our programmes were publically announced in May 2008. It was a time of careful piloting, development and then rapid growth as people around the world showed how keen they were to understand more about and work with people of other religions.

On Tuesday 26th of January Face to Faith local co-ordinators from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Pakistan, India, Australia and the UK convene for the first time in London to discuss the achievements of the programme to date. Face to Faith is a global schools programme which connects 11-16 year olds of different faiths and none through video conferencing technology, allowing students to learn directly with, from and about each other. Since its launch in summer 2009 Face to Faith has grown rapidly.

I remember sitting in the Cathedral in Port au Prince years ago worried at the obvious presence of the Macoutes hanging around the door but feeling protected because of the venue. Today it is almost impossible to think of such a building shaking and collapsing. Sadly there wasn't much else solid about Haitian society then or now.

On Thursday evening, Annika Small, Director of Education at the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, won the ‘Outstanding achievement in ICT education award’ at the BETT Awards. This is the most prestigious and sought-after accolade for educational technology suppliers.

Face to Faith initiated by TonyBlair Faith Foundation for me was an attraction because the agenda of this programme was sustainable world peace through dialogue between the youth of the world. I believe that youth of the world are the agent of change. They have to serve the world no matters where ever they are. I personally believe that the reason for wars in the world is miscommunication and misunderstanding. We need to communicate, peace, love, and harmony.

Danny and Hilary bought young people from different faiths together in Toronto for a 'Night of Rights' in celebration of International Human Rights Day. They've produced this inspiring film full of ideas of how to enhance human rights and fight malaria which threatens the lives of some of the most vulnerable people around the world. On the Overseas List, British-born Rabbi David Rosen, honorary adviser on interfaith to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and member of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation advisory board, has been awarded a CBE for services to interfaith relations both in the Middle East and between the UK and Israel.
