On to a New Chapter
As the days grow warmer, our days as Faiths Act Fellows are sadly drawing to a close. As of May 31st 2010, the inaugural year of the Faiths Act Fellowship programme will officially be over, and we will each venture our separate ways, back to school, back to Saskatoon, out into the real world.
As sad as it is to say goodbye to all the incredible people we’ve met and experiences we’ve had from the fellowship, we are thrilled to be leaving our work in the hands of an extremely committed and enthusiastic group of leaders.
We would like to take this opportunity to officially (via cyberspace at least) pass the torch to the new Faiths Act Toronto Hub. This leadership team will work together over the next year to continue to build interfaith cooperation and action towards the Millennium Development Goals, particularly the eradication of malaria. Similarly to us, they will work with high school and university students as well as young professionals.
So now onto the introductions:
Vanessa Coelho-Romeiro has just finished her Masters at the University of Waterloo. She will be serving as the Hub coordinator next year and will be the liaison with TBFF and IFYC.
Jessie Ampofo is going into her fourth year in Political Science, English and Philosophy at the University of Toronto, she will be organizing the University events for next year.
Reetika Tripathi is going into her second year in Human Biology at the University of Toronto, she will also be organizing the University events for next year.
Irshad Osman works at United Way in Toronto and will be working on World Malaria Day Events for April 25th 2011.
Faith Goldy is studying Political Science at the University of Toronto with a look towards journalism. Faith will be working with Irshad on planning World Malaria Day events next year.
Jodi Katzeff works at The House, a Jewish community centre for young adults and will be organizing Night of Rights, a grassroots high school gala for International Human Rights Day on December 10th 2010.
Devika Sanichar is going into grade 11 next year at Weston Collegiate Institute. She is committed to social justice and development issues and will be organizing Night of Rights with Jodi.
Julia Belluz is a journalist who has just started working at CityTV and also has a lot of experience doing freelance pieces for different newspapers and journals. She will be co-organizing SolidariTEA: A Multifaith Celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th 2011.
Saaliha Khadim is a grade 11 student at the Islamic Foundation School and will be working with Julia to organize SolidariTEA.
We would like to thank you all in advance for the energy and commitment we know that you will bring to the Faiths Act campaign.
So, in closing, we would like to say congratulations and best of luck to a new hub and a new chapter in the Faiths Act campaign. May your year be filled with lots of laughter and adventures!
In Solidarity,
Areeba, Danny, Erica & Hilary
