Nadeem and I work with a great bunch of volunteers from a variety of faiths, including Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and Hinduism. The success of the Faiths Act campaign wouldn’t be possible without the many young people supporting and taking control of it.
Hub members have signed up to be a part of Faiths Act for a rich variety of reasons. I asked two young people, Alex Skolnick and Neelam Shah, to briefly explain why they wanted to get on board.
As an active member of the Jewish community I have always been involved in charity work and volunteering, but the aims have always been to help Jewish causes. Whilst I have enjoyed that, and believe it to be very important, I felt that I also wanted to work with the wider community. Faiths Act was the perfect opportunity because it promotes inter-faith work, but at the same time is not aimed towards one religion or faith. I felt that it was a great opportunity to work with all different types of people, whilst at the same time also working towards a collective goal. The Malaria No More campaign is a very worthy charity and supports a great cause, which made joining the Faiths Act all the more rewarding for me. I have really enjoyed being part of the team as I feel that it has taught me a lot and I’ve had fun doing it too.
Alex Skolnick, Jewish, London
I wanted to join the Faiths Act campaign as it brings together all ethnical cultural religious backgrounds together as a one unified group to express our opinions on how to make our community better. I want to be a part of it and express my ideas, opinions on how to fundraise, advertise for it and just contribute whenever I can.
I myself am a Jain, Jainism is part of Hinduism, it is a strong faith, but the only difference which separates Jainism to Hinduism is we as Jains follow the code of living not religion.
Overall I feel with my faith and every other faith, we could achieve something great together uniting everyone from a religious background as one.
Neelam Shah, Hindu, London

"I welcome with joy and hope the dedication of the Rt. Hon. Tony Blair to initiate a Faith Foundation for the purpose of promoting cooperation among the world’s religions for human wellbeing, mutual understanding and trust. This work is an urgent necessity of our times. Our collaboration in this effort is not an option. It is an imperative of our common existence and interrelated lives.
