Think Global : Act Local
Over 50 volunteers from different faiths joined hands at the Nishkam Centre in Handsworth (www.ncauk.org), Birmingham for a Faiths in Action project in conjunction with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation Faiths Act campaign, for an afternoon of interfaith service themed 'THINK GLOBAL ACT LOCAL.'
THINK GLOBAL - In the first hour, we presented our interfaith campaign on global poverty, focussing particularly on eradicating deaths from malaria. We also talked about the importance of UN International Human Solidarity Day which was on 20th December 2009. People were inspired to sign the Faiths Act Declaration, and to buy malaria themed gift cards for £5 each - each card contributing towards a bed-net for a family in Africa. If you would like to purchase any gift cards, please send an email request to pritpal.kaur@faithsactfellows.org
ACT LOCAL - Following the presentation, volunteers sorted and packed generous donations from a range of faith organisations in the City. Over 215 gift boxes were wrapped and donated to Sandwell Women's Aid.
