World Malaria Day 2010!
We are so excited to announce some of our plans for World Malaria Day 2010 here in Chicago! We have been working hard to get the word out about malaria, and we want the events around World Malaria Day to focus on hope: hope that people will continue to unite together around this cause, hope that we can (and will!) eliminate endemic malaria from many places across Africa by 2015, and hope that 5 years from now many people will not die from this disease anymore.
One of the things we have been working the hardest on is our traveling art exhibit. We have commissioned six local, diverse Chicago artists to create original art pieces around the word malaria. These six pieces will be traveling around Chicago at different universities and cultural centers, raising awareness about malaria, and raising funds to help in the fight. The art will be up for sale in a silent auction all week, with all the proceeds benefiting Malaria No More.
We are excited to be co-hosting a social justice-themed Shabbat dinner with our friends at the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) on the evening of April 16th. Following this, we have a kick-off benefit concert for malaria happening at Bond Chapel at University of Chicago on Saturday night, April 17th. We will then be traveling around with the art to different venues throughout the week. We also have several others exciting things in the works...but you will just have to stay tuned for a more detailed schedule in the next few weeks. We would love to have you come to the benefit concert, or bid on the original pieces of art. We are looking forward to see you around Chicago next month!
