Abhinav Sharma from Faiths Act Canada acting against malaria

My name is Abhinav Sharma and I have been involved with Faiths Act Canada for just over a year now. For me there’s something about the sheer magnitude of numbers that really jump at me, when you convert those numbers into people and faces you realize how important this cause is. When you look at the solution, you realize how unacceptable deaths by malaria are. I have worked in the last year to incorporate a spread the net component into all areas of my life to raise awareness for what I think is not a charitable gesture, but a responsibility towards humankind. 

The Ministry of Health and Long Term care’s (Ontario,Canada) Stewardship Café leaders joined together this year to add a fresh new twist to the holiday sprit at the office. They took down the tree and put up the nets. The ministry was covered in a sea of deep blues and off tone whites, there were posters, postcards and yards of net fabric all depicting the very real picture of Malaria and the stats to match it.

The week long campaign came to an end with a wonderful multi-cultural potluck lunch, celebrating the rich heritage and the delightful cuisines of the world. This wonderful endeavor all came to life through the guidance and leadership of Catalina A. Trevizan senior program director and the Ministry of Health. Catalina was supported by a group of very committed and socially conscientious people who really took a proactive approach to making a difference through leadership.

The response was tremendous, people really want to do there part, and events like this not only bring forward change but allow for people to engage intimate dialog and rub shoulders with people they otherwise would not have the opportunity to meet. The stewardship café will continue to host various events throughout the year in support of this very worthy cause.
