Danny Richmond, 23, has worked and volunteered on 5 different continents. He has slept in the jungles of South America while teaching HIV/AIDS education through Youth Challenge International. His connection to his own heritage has been a major focus of his life, he has served as National Program Director of Canadian Young Judaea (CYJ) leading trips to Israel, Argentina, and New Orleans, as well as founding the youth led social justice organization called Va’ad Tikun Olam (VTO). In 2006, he was asked to accompany Michaëlle Jean, the Governor General of Canada, as part of a 10 person Canadian delegation, on her state visit to 5 African nations. Hilary Keachie, a 22 year old Christian from Toronto, recently obtained her Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. She was part of the “Inner City” stream which focuses on issues of social justice, equity and diversity. Before that, she attended McGill University where she got an undergraduate degree in World Religions, Political Science, French and Italian. Hilary has extensive experience in interfaith cooperation and education, both in Canada and abroad. She volunteered for two months at a primary school devoted to reconciliation between Hindu and Muslim children in Hyderabad, India. She also spent a year studying Islamic geo-politics at an international and multi-faith university in Menton, France. Hilary gained exposure to national interfaith initiatives as a long term volunteer for the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism in Montreal and as an intern at the Canadian Centre for Diversity in Toronto. Ve'ahavta and Faiths Act Present the Intercamp Classic to Bat Out Malaria and Send Kids to Camp!
This year, 20 camps from across Ontario will face off in a softball tournament to determine the best camp of 2010. Off the field, however, competitors will work together to protect children both at home and abroad. This softball tournament will be supporting Ve’ahavta’s Project Muso fund which provides malaria prevention and treatment for children in Mali, West Africa. In addition, money raised on the day of the event will be directed towards grants for first-time campers to attend overnight camp as part of the Top Bunk initiative.
