Karem Issa is 25 and is an Egyptian-born British Muslim. He grew up in Birmingham and graduated with a BA and MA in International Studies. He is passionate about a number of global issues, on a research, campaigning and vocational level. He has a particular interest in fair trade. Karem is looking forward to working with a diverse range of people in Blackburn, and more widely in Lancashire. Ushna Mughal is a 22 years old Pakistani Catholic from Bradford and will be moving to the Blackburn to start the Fellowship.Ushna has BSc degree in Psychology and during her second year she set up UK’s first regional interfaith youth forum. She has also worked for a religious literacy programme Faith Matters and through the organisation ‘vinvolved’ has been dedicated towards creating volunteering opportunities for young people in Leeds. “Working with Others” to tackle malaria at Blackburn College
Every year the inspiring young students of Pre-Teaching course at Blackburn College take up a charity as part of their ‘Working with Others” module to raise the profile of a social concern. Karem’s Blog: Common Goals, Common Action – Political Stability, Malawi
This is the first of a series of entries entitled Common Goals, Common Action. Each entry will be a story of successful multi-faith action around a common goal. I hope to illustrate how diverse the multi-faith movement can be and how the energy created when faith communities work together can be channelled towards our shared and most pressing needs. As the campaign progresses, I would love to add stories closer to home, from Blackburn and Lancashire, about the successful multi-faith action of young campaigners on the pressing global issue of malaria.

Karem’s blog - Dr Moyola: An unsung hero
Dr Paul Moyola is, for me, an example of an unsung hero working to battle malaria in Malawi. Despite only featuring in our busy itinerary for a quick 10 minutes, he made an impact on us all during this visually memorable appearance, answering questions on malaria aboard our bus, parked in front of his busy clinic.

Ushna’s blog - A Story About Malaria
During a school assembly at St. Michael’s Secondary School, in Malawi and in the presence of 600 students, our coordinator asked the crowd “who here has never had malaria in their life”? Not a single person raised their hand, instead there was a roar of laughter followed by astonishment when they realised that us, the visitors had never suffered from malaria.
