Best wishes, always.

This year, we have ... witnessed the rallying of individuals of faith and communities around shared values. Reacting to the injustices that plague our world, we have seen inspiring events and collaboration fostered in Montreal, in Canada, and in the World. As part of Faiths Act, young and old have come together in the recognition that the prevalence of malaria in today`s world is simply an untenable situation. We can no longer sit idly by, and we haven`t. Congratulations on that. Together, the 15 Faiths Act hubs across the three countries have raised nearly $100,000 for the prevention and treatment of malaria; this is before the matching grant. That`s incredible!

Malaria Bites, Bite Back

From Malaria Bites, Bite Back
On Monday, April 26, over 25 individuals of different faiths came together at Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom to recognize World Malaria Day and learn more about this devastating disease. The evening featured the Montreal premiere of When the Night Comes followed by a moving talk by Melissa Muduuli, consultant with the United Nations Association of Canada. Moved by the documentary, Ms. Muduuli decided to spontaneously abandon her prepared talk and instead spoke about her own experiences with malaria growing up in Uganda.

A Pebble in the Sand

Have you ever stood on the beach, right along the edge of the ocean, and realized that you're a part of something much bigger? I've always pictured the scenario as though it were a movie. The camera zooms out into a wide panoramic, nothing but water ahead of me, and my body quickly shrinking to become yet another pebble in the sand...

Celebrate the Miracle of Chanukah with the Miracle of the Bed Net!

I feel I should begin with a disclaimer; I was not the first to draw the parallel between Channukah and malaria. However, when I came across the idea on-line it resonated with what I value about Chanukah. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Channukah are latkes. Those glorious potato pancakes fried to perfection. The copious amounts of oil necessary for the preparation of latkes serve as a reminder of the oil that miraculously burned for the 8 days...

Doni-Doni: Little by Little

The commitment of the Project MUSO team, both Malian and American, inspires me to believe that malaria will be eliminated. Witnessing the challenges faced by the people of Mali, it is tempting to throw up my hands and conclude that progress is beyond human means in this part of the world [...] However, the Malians have a proverb: “little by little a bird builds a nest...”

A Year Shrouded in Mystery

We’ve now been here, training in London, for a full two days [...] If it’s any indication of what’s to come, this will be quite the hectic year. At the same time, it’s shaping up to be a really productive year [...] Although the year promises to be trying, and frustrating and even frightening at times, my impression from the start is that it’s not going to end with heads cast low...
