A Message for Pesach
I have great pleasure in sending my best wishes to all those celebrating Pesach and commemorating the liberation of the Children of Israel who were led out of Egypt by Moses.
At this time Jews contemplate the plight of their ancestors and celebrate freedom and the defeat of tyranny and oppression. I hope that all Jews will be strengthened in their faith and identity by this celebration of one of the most important religious festivals in the Jewish calendar. I trust too that they will be strengthened in their resistance to the oppressive forces of prejudice and anti- semitism which all too often still assail them.
This festival holds resounding messages for all of us, across the faiths: that we should take the time to appreciate the freedoms we possess, yet often take for granted, and intensify our efforts to emancipate those who still suffer from the oppression of poverty, especially in the developing world.
May all those marking Pesach have a chag kasher vesameach.
