A message for Rosh Hashanah
L'shanah tovah to all those celebrating the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.
The commemoration of the creation of the world is a very important time for the Jewish community. It is not only a time of celebration, but also one of reflection. The futures hoped-for sweetness mingles with humility and repentance. This is, in fact, a model of how communities may seek to improve themselves , so that they may better face the new challenges of the future.
This 'birthday of the world' may also cause us all, whether Jewish or not, to reflect on our duty as stewards of the natural world, to nurture God's creation so that it leads to renewed life. At a time when the world is facing grave environmental challenges, such a reminder is more than timely.
So may the sweetness of Rosh Hashanah sustain you, and may your reflections strengthen you, throughout the coming year.
Best wishes
