  • Face to Faith: Human Rights Day and UN Solidarity Day

    To kick off a month-long series of events marking both UN Human Rights Day (10th December) and UN Solidarity Day (20th December) our Face to Faith schools programme will be holding “SolidariTEA” events encouraging students to take action on human rights violations.     Congratulations to young film makers Charles Andrew Flamiano from the Philippines, Liat Har-Gill from Israel, and Mudit Muraka from India for winning the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s 2012 global film competition, Faith Shorts. The three winners received their awards at 195 Piccadilly, the home of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in front of over 200 guests including Tony Blair, members of the entertainment and film industry, religious leaders, and experts from Wikipedia, Youtube and Google.     Tony Blair and Bishop Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, along with HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan, launched new work led by the Faith Foundation, in Nigeria, to encourage reconciliation between Christian and Muslim communities.   • Face to Faith Student meets United Kingdom Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg

    Poppy Brown from Derby High School, England recently met Deputy Prime Minster of the United Kingdom Nick Clegg at the House of Commons. This was a prize for winning the 2012 annual Face to Faith Essay competition run by The Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Women of the Future initiative. Students were able to ask Mr. Clegg questions about the government, university fees and the essays. Mr. Claig said, “The essays were very thoughtful”. Face to Faith works to improve religious literacy, building bridges between young people of different faiths and backgrounds.

    The festival of Diwali (also known as the festival of lights) is celebrated to commemorate the return of the Hindu God Rama to his kingdom after defeating the evil king Ravana.
