Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? Click on the questions below to see the answers to our most frequently asked questions.

How old you have to be to enter Faith Shorts?

Faith Shorts 2012 is now closed.

I’m a Face to Faith Student – what’s the new category?

If you are a Face to Faith student, please click here to learn more about the competition. Learn more about how to become a Face to Faith School here.

Can I enter from anywhere in the world?

Yes, we accept entries from any country or location.

Do you accept films in a foreign language?

Films can be submitted in any language but must have English subtitles.

What is the deadline for the film competition?

The competition is now closed.

How long can my film be?

We will only accept films that are 3 minutes or shorter including credits or title slides.

Can I make my film with a group?

You are more than welcome to submit a film from a group such as your class, youth club, group of friends or congregation. However, there must be a lead filmmaker between the ages of 14 and 27 who takes responsibility for directing the project. The lead filmmaker is the only one who is eligible to win the prizes and the London trip.

Do you have any advice on where I can find resources with tops on filming and editing?

We’ve put together a useful list of resources that you can find here. This includes some good websites for tips on script writing, filming, music, editing and much more.

Can I use music from my CD collection or iTunes in my film?

If you use a commercial music track (music you hear on the radio) you are legally obliged to contact both the artist and the studio where it was recorded to get permission to screen this which can be expensive and time consuming. We will not be able to include your entry unless it complies with copyright restrictions. You can get an unsigned band or group of bands to lend their music to your soundtrack provided that they only play their own material. Or you can go on the web and find various digital musicians to lend you their songs as well. Find out more on the resources page here.

Do I need to get written permission from the people I film?

Before submitting an entry you must ensure that all people appearing in the film have given written permission (including permission from parents/ guardians if people appearing in the film are under 18 years old) for their image to be broadcast should the entry be shortlisted in the competition. We may request this proof if your film is a winning entry so please ensure you have this.

How can I submit my movie for the competition?

The competition is now closed.

Where can I view the films for Faith Shorts 2011?

You can watch the winners and runners up from last year’s competition here.

Can I still enter if I don't have a faith?

The competition is now closed.

What will the judges be looking for?

The judges are looking for films that are interesting, creative and clear. They are looking for films that remain consistent throughout their chosen style. They will also be looking for films that think carefully about the filming techniques they use, perhaps take risks, but keep the storyline in mind throughout. The judges will be aware that different cameras will be used, and will judge what the entrants achieve with the equipment available to them. Just a reminder, the judges can only judge your film if it meets the guidelines.

When will I find out if I've been shortlisted?

The shortlist is now online.

When are the overall winners announced?

The winners will be announced 26 November, 2012.

If I win will I be coming to London on my own?

The prize includes a trip to London for the winning film maker and their parent or guardian, if you are under 18.

If I win how long will I be in London?

If you are one of the selected winners, your prize will be an all expenses paid trip to London. This will be for no longer than three nights during 2012.

Where will my film be shown?

If the Foundation and the judges like your film it may be watched by people around the world either in full or an edited version. It may be put up on the internet, shown at the awards ceremony and other awards and even shown on television. If you are shortlisted we may publicise your success in a range of publicity materials and with the media.

Where can I find a release form for those participating in my film?

You can find an example of a release form here, however the competition is now closed.
