Our Volunteers in Action

Michael's story

Michael has been reaching out to Hare Krishna and Muslim communities in Kampala, Uganda and sharing with them the work of the Faith Foundation, by showing them pictures and talking to them about malaria and the work different faiths can do to combat it by fighting together. In August Michael also conducted a training session in malaria prevention at his place of work; by using the Faiths Act Volunteer toolkit and the 'Story of a Bed Net Film' he was able to teach his colleagues about malaria prevention, including how to identify and eliminate likely mosquito breeding grounds. Moreover, the event encouraged people of different faiths to get together and form relations and each of his colleagues, as a result of this experience, pledged to support Faiths Act.

Onkardeep's story

Onkardeep Singh Khalsa is a Faiths Act volunteer who in September completed a 29 day cycling trip from Berlin to Istanbul moving through 10 countries and clocking up 2600km. He chose to dedicate his trip to our Faiths Act campaign. He reflected afterwards "If I had to summarise what I learnt from the trip in one sentence, I would say, ‘When you submit, everything will be provided'. Whatever we felt we needed, something would always turn up! It was an amazing experience. I have been very fortunate to be able to have completed this journey and learnt so much along the way. It has really reinforced one of my personal goals, which is to serve the world by promoting unity among faiths and spreading love amongst all.

Geoffrey's story

Geoffrey, a Community Mobilization officer and Theatre Facilitator from Malawi, is planning a drama, music and dance competition and performance with young people of different faiths, to get people together and raise funds. He already runs similar projects to help educate communities about HIV/AIDS, but has been inspired by Faiths Act to tackle malaria, too, which also takes a terrible toll on people in his home city of Lilongwe. While equipment like bed nets and medication is vital, he knows how important is to educate people on the causes of malaria and how to use that equipment properly

Christina's story

Christina Teisch the principal of St. Thomas the Apostle was left so inspired by meeting Ibraham and Hala Issa from Hope Flowers School in Bethleham, Palestine at the Foundation’s Face to Faith conference that she pioneered her own project to support this school. She shared the stories of those that she met with her students back in New York and says “They listened. They were silent. They asked what could they do to help these children. On a sunny Saturday in June, 40 of my students spent the day washing hundreds of cars with me and teacher, Robert Windorf. It was hot! We worked so very hard! It was worth it! The funds we raised was for Hala's children at Hope Flowers School. A school thousands of miles away from us in our Holy Land of Bethlehem. Where Jesus was born and taught us to love all. We reached out to our sisters and brothers on this earth and we felt proud of ourselves”
